If ever taken hostage, it is good to remember that the hostage taker(s) / terrorists want you alive or you would not be a hostage. Yes, you should plan to escape if possible, but not give so much resistance as to make the captors decide to get rid of the problem and just kill you.
If taken hostage, there are three bottom line things to keep in mine. 1. Control your fear and maintain your dignity. If you become excited, so will your captors. 2. Follow the instructions of the captors and 3. Avoid sudden movements that could be viewed as hostile by the captors. The initial moments and hours of a hostage situation can be the most dangerous. Decisions made by increase your chances for survival.

As a hostage, especially, if you are moved from time to time, it is good, if possible to leave full finger prints as much as possible. As the authorities conduct searches, these finger prints can aid them in tracking you. It may seem small, but little pieces of information can do a lot for the proper authorities.

If you are ever taken hostage, either by criminals or terrorists, you should always try to be aware of your surroundings. Even if you are blindfolded or otherwise deprived of some of your senses; you can still use your other senses to be able to understand your surroundings and circumstances. What you can learn through your senses can also help you give details to authorities at a later time.
