Security at Nuclear Power Plants

Security at Nuclear Power Plants

I was watching a report on this yesterday / Thursday evening. While I was watching this report, the thought came to mind that they wouldn’t be putting this report out unless there was some type of potential terrorist threat; possibly toward Nuclear Power Plants, possibly toward other places or people.

When reports come out about possible terrorist threats / plans, we need to take heed to those warnings. Having dealt with terror warnings, I learned a long time ago, you never know which ones are credible and which ones are not. The problem is, you have to pay attention to them all, because you never know when the one that will happen will occur.

For a little background, before 9/11, I was a Security Officer for the Department of Defense. I was working in Germany at the time and used to get intelligence information routinely (pretty much daily) on Osama Bin Laden. I like a lot of other folks in the security arena, sad to say, basically ignored him; equating him to just another radical nut job, rattling his sabre.

On 9/11, I my little disbelief bubble was burst. I had done like so many other security professionals and gotten used to living in a terrorist threat environment.  I figured it was just another threat and had seen no evidence that Bin Laden was going to follow through. I was very sadly mistaken.

Now I watch as a routine, keeping one eye and one ear open at all times, just in case. Yes, I still live my life as normal; I just keep myself prepared in case a terrorist does carry out an attack.

With all that said, we have plenty to be watching in today’s world. Do not let your attention be drawn all the way in one direction or another. Be aware of what is happening in the world, but at the same time, be aware that terrorists can attack anywhere in the world all at once. They can conduct multiple strikes at the same time, whether planned together or not. And right now, with all the confusion in the world, we must be aware of what is happening around us and call suspicious activity into the authorities.

Be careful out there folks, our lives depend on it.
