Leaving a vehicle at home during a trip

leave a comment »

If your trip gives you the option of leaving a vehicle at home, it is best to leave the one that is normally there during the day to give the impression of “life as normal” while you are gone. If you can have people coming by to maintain the place while you are gone, it gives your home a busy look. Simple things like this can help make unwanted visitors look else where for an easier place to prey upon.

This and a lot more information can be found in the ebook, Cycle for Travel Safety listed on Amazon.com for download.

Planning begins before a trip

Planning begins before a trip

When you start planning a trip, the first thing you should plan for is how you want your house to look and what condition it should be in when you return.

There are several things you can do before you depart: leaving lights on (preferably use a timer), plan for a house sitter if you can; have someone pick up mail, stop mail delivery, someone to feed and care for animals and plants, etc. The list can be long, but, it is well worth your time to take care of details. It gives your home a sense of someone being there routinely instead of being empty and available for a break in.

Use of WiFi

A lot of places now offer free Wifi for their customers.

While this may be a very convenient way to gain access to the internet, it may also subject your computer, tablet or smart phone to monitoring or worse. Be aware of your internet use and where you use it.

Alcohol consumption

When traveling, be vary aware of your alcohol consumption.
The obvious part of this is never drink and drive.
The perhaps not so obvious part is to be very aware of drinking when around others you may not know. You don’t know what their intentions are.
